Aleen came up to visit me in Lindsay this weekend, so on Saturday we decided to go on a small day trip to picturesque Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon.  Both about a 20-25 minute drive from Lindsay that makes into a nice circular path between the three towns.

We went to Fenelon Falls first, a quaint little town nestled on the shores of Lake Cameron.  In the summer time, this small town of like 2000 people is a bustle with tourists and boaters who traverse the Trent-Severn Waterway.  A small town area revolves around Lock 34, where the boats come through to get from Sturgeon Lake and Cameron Lake.  Because of the Lock, there is a moderate falls area where one can stand and admire.  An adjacent park area also allows you to walk causally and enjoy the fresh air and sights.

After taking in the falls, we walked along the streets and looked at some of the tourist shops, which for the main part were closed for the season.  Supposedly there is a huge difference between the summer time and when we went.  One of the other main reasons why we went was because we heard that there is a German restaurant in town.  Just off the main street is this cute little house, which is the restaurant, called Chatterbox.  Inside was typical Bavarian style with lots of wood furnishings and knick-knacks.  We were the only ones there and only the owner/chef was working.  Traditional German music played in the background as we enjoyed our meals.  Aleen of course had her usual schnitzel :) .  Portions were quite large for lunch and very filling and enjoyable.  After lunch we ended up talking to the owner for a while, before we ended up leaving the town for Bobcaygeon.

After 20 more minutes we ended up in another quaint lakeside community, although Bobcaygeon is larger than Fenelon Falls.  We were still pretty stuffed from lunch so we didn’t end up doing much other than parking by the lake and enjoying the view from a park bench.  After a few minutes, we called it a day and ended up going back home to Lindsay – a little excursion to enjoy the fall time around Lindsay came to end.
